Automotive Resources

Looking for a new car? Used car? Trying to sell your car? Don't know what kind of car you should go for? Automotive Safety? Hey we are here to save you some time. Check out our links below.

Motley Fool's Car Buying Guide - Are you in the process of buying a car? Thinking of refinancing just so that you an afford that minivan? Before you do anything hasty, take a look at this great car buying resource that will save you a dime or two. Get answers to questions such as: Should you buy a new or used car? How much can you afford? Get in on the trade secrets and the art of the deal and use some of the many calculators provided for free. One of my favorite car buying resources (together with Edmunds.com listed below).

Edmunds.com - This site is EXTREMELY useful. Whenever my family is considering selling or buying a car, this is a must. You'll be able to not only find reviews, new and used car prices, consumer advice, but also a "town hall", which is discussion boards where people can ask questions and make comment about their cars. I have learned a lot in these forums about problems with cars, comparing two or more cars to each other etc.

Insurance Institute of Highway Safety - The Institute of Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute have combined web sites and bring you all the information you need when it comes to the safety of your car. See how your car rates in a variety of crashes/accidents or simply read up on safety facts about children, airbags, aftermarket parts, teenagers and other issues. This is a great resource to see how your car is doing or the car that you are thinking about buying.

Safety Facts on Kids and Car Safety - This page maintained by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has information about fatality facts, child restraints/belt laws, kids & airbags and vehicles with built-in child restraints.

Child Passenger Safety - You'll find a lot of different articles on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations web site. Anything from buying a safer car, 14 tips on child transportation to detailed information about car seats and booster seats and how to install them correctly.

When Belting Kids Follow the Rules - This article on the Healthscout.org web site discusses the risk to kids who are not using seat belts correctly, why parents sometimes don't (often they don't know) and what the correct way of restraining your child in the car is.

How safe is your car? -  Crashtest.com is a source for insurance information detailing how safe your next vehicle purchase may be. They have discovered NHTSA crash-test data going back to the seventies. Every new and used car, truck, van, and sport utility vehicle (SUV) that can be found at your local dealer or in your paper's classified section has been rated. Using the compare feature, two models from two different manufacturers can be viewed at the same time to see how their safety statistics measure up to one another.

Got a Car? - If you have a car, this is a great site. Here you can find a mechanic in your area that other consumers have evaluated, read up on lemon laws, get a car report on your car (or maybe the next car you had in mind), find out about recalls, ask the manufacturer of your car a specific question, get answers to your mechanical problems and more...

LeaseSource - This site offers you car buying and leasing tools. Here you can find information on leasing disclosure laws, review lease contract summaries and to obtain pricing information, residual values, money factors and other vehicle data. They provide you with a calculator to run the numbers, an "Ask The Expert" section, how to negotiate a leasing deal, the basics behind lesing an more.

Glove Box Tips from Ted the Technician - This is an article from the National Institute for Automotive Service Exellence. It features tips on how to communicate for better automotive service, what to look out for, what to keep an eye on, keeping your car in tune with the environment etc.

Kelley Blue Book - No introductions needed here. Their site does even better than their little blue books, it's free, it's current. Can't get any better than this.

Ask Mr. Traffic - This is another good site. Links to other resources, tips and tricks you HAVE to know before you go out to buy your car.

Used car buyer's checklist - A helpful site. Links to other resources on the web. Gives you a checklist of what to look for in a used car.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - This site is a MUST. Here you will find
information about car seat safety, airbag safety, how well did your car do during a test crash, a kids page that teaches them safety. This is where the crash test dummies spend their time.
